Barbara Kohler, Power of the Cross Ministries, Inc.: Beliefs
We affirm our belief in historic Christianity as revealed in the Scriptures and
summarized in the Apostles’ Creed and we affirm the following beliefs:
One God in Three Persons - God exists eternally in three persons: Father,
Son and Holy Spirit; and has so revealed Himself to us in the Holy Bible.
Jesus is LORD - The full deity and full humanity (lived as a man) of our
Lord Jesus Christ, God Incarnate, who by reason of his birth of the Virgin
Mary, sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, glorious ascension
and triumphant reign, is the only Mediator between God and man. We believe
in Jesus’ future return to earth and millennial reign on the earth.
The Holy Scriptures - The Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of
God.
Justification and Sanctification - Only the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ
can cleanse sin and make the sinner justified in the eyes of God. That which
is cleansed by the Blood of Christ, will be anointed by the Holy Spirit of
God. This is a continual work of sanctification as we grow in Christ. Sanctification
is the gracious continuing activity of the Holy Spirit in the justified believer,
perfecting his repentance, nurturing the new life implanted within him, transforming
him into Christ’s image, and enabling him to do good works in the world.
Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is required for salvation (you must be born
again!).
The Christian Church - The Church as the Body of Christ, whose members belong
to the new humanity, and are called to live in the world in the power of the
Holy Spirit, worshipping God, confessing His truth, proclaiming Christ, supporting
one another in love and giving ourselves in sacrificial service to those in
need.
Spiritual Gifts and Ministry - The calling of all Christians to exercise
their God-given gifts in ministry, and to work, witness, and suffer for Christ;
together with the particular calling of ministers, who by preaching, teaching
and pastoral care, are to equip God’s people for His service, and to
present them mature in Christ. We believe the worship assembly should welcome
the Holy Spirit to minister through His gifts which are given to every believer
according to 1 Corinthians 12 and 13. We also believe in the Baptism of the
Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues for every individual believer
who desires (Acts 2:4).
The Return of Christ - The personal return in glory of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the resurrection of the dead (some to life, some to condemnation), for the
glorification of His church and for the renewal of the whole creation.
